The interactions between characters in the Harvest Moon series have significant weight to them in the early games, and in Stardew Valley there are consequences for actions too - but they aren't as dire as a spouse leaving or a farm animal dying. It's true that the character interactions and stories aren't that great, but the gameplay in general is fantastic.
